My travel game got way better when the following things happened:
• I started running my own VPN (though now I use Tailscale)
• I really embraced the “go pack” lifestyle
• I started bringing an old Apple TV with me
• I became a travel router person@mathowie is dead-on here.

I love traveling to new places and getting to enjoy new experiences. And as much as I love travel, it can be chaotic. A friend once said that if you’ve ever tried to meditate and failed to quiet your jumbled mind, you should take a trip instead. Because when

@caseyliss @mathowie Agree! A few other things I found essential for comfort especially for longer-haul trips: toiletries ‘go pack’, good quality eye mask, MagSafe battery, Twelve South Air Fly; Air Tags.

@caseyliss I made a "go pack" when I first heard you mention it on ATP. It was a game changer. (I pretty much ignore the rest of the list tho)

@caseyliss I think you were the one that mentioned taking an Apple TV with me on the go, and it's a game changer. I do need to look into the local VPN, though - I was just at the coffee shop yesterday and wanted to remote into my Mac Mini and went "oh I get it now".

@niclake @caseyliss the utility of Tailscale has been eye opening. It’s worth figuring out

@caseyliss @mathowie If you're an Apple Watch person, one of those 3-in-1 chargers that can fast Magsafe-charge the phone, watch, and Airpods off of one USB-C cable is a game-changer.
Like this one from Anker. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CF56WHV4?ref=liismo-20 -

@caseyliss @mathowie all good advice, but depending on where you go, you'll want one of these in the bag (no hairdryers etc, but computers all do 220 just fine):
and if you're really cooking, an Android Pixel phone. Doesn't have to be fancy, I have a 6A.

@caseyliss @mathowie oh also, USB-A to USB-C ones are handy on the airplane and the rental cars. The newer ones have USB-C often, but it's far from 100%. The other thing is that the hotel TV almost always has USB-A ports that will charge a phone. That's the move when the ones on the desk are broken (often) from too much use.

@mathowie @coachmike66 something that really blew my fucking mind, thanks to @ironicbadger, was:
• Get a USB-C multi-port charger that takes power via an IEC C7 connector
• Get a [local AC outlet]
C7 connectorThat solved most of our charging needs in
last year. -
