Mossy sort of a morning.

Giō-ji's moss garden really comes alive in the rain.
The origins of the temple are hazy, but it's thought the hermitage began as a dōjō called Ōjō-in (往生院 'Temple of Rebirth'), built by Ryōnin (良忍 1073-1132) to help spread Yūzū Nembutsu (融通念仏宗).

Kurobee (くろべえ) the temple cat wisely stays at reception as frequent rain showers sweep across Sagano.

Because Jōjakkō-ji blends so well into nature, it is often known as 'Hei no nai-dera' (塀のない寺), the 'Temple Without Walls'.
Like many Kyōto temples, it is also known as 'Hana-no-dera' (花の寺), the 'Temple of Flowers'.I particularly love the fresh green maple leaves.

A stroll through Sagano's famous bamboo (short and sweet to make it look as if it was peaceful and empty
).#Sagano #bamboo #竹の道 #Arashiyama #嵯峨野
