I don't know what rabbit hole sent me to discovered the Mold-A-Rama, but I've ever since been hoping to one day see one IRL. Closest I got to one was in Milwaukee, but we got there late and had to leave early so I didn't have the time to visit the county Zoo to check one out.

In short, it's an injection molding machine, except it's intended as a curiosity rather than a factory machine. They make various toy figurines and you get to watch as it happens as the whole mechanism is under a transparent dome.

@apzpins they have a couple forms of these. When I was kid we went the San Diego zoo and they had one that made wax figures. I got a cast of a cockatiel. They are really interesting machines.

@boyago I was actually wondering if they'd be just resurrecting the original 60s machines constantly or if ones with more modern internal design and safeties were made.

@apzpins there are a couple at PHoF. Both are currently down, but when the lot are running, they are a lot of fun.
Iv watched work be done on them. It’s a bucket of hot plastic underneath. The output isn’t 100% perfect, so a box of good moulds is kept around to hand to kids who don’t get a good one.
There are a couple at the Henry Ford museum as well.

@Tydence I found a list of active ones back in the days, but never got to check one out. I guess it was a bit like the elusive McDonalds pizza.

@apzpins The pinball hall here in Vegas has a couple of the Disney mold-a-ramas!

@Tydence @apzpins Hah you had the better version of my answer. @Tydence how hard are they to maintain?

@driph @apzpins judging by uptime.. Easier than keeping a Joust alive, but harder than a well worn Twilight Zone.

@Tydence @driph Now that is very pinball specific answer, that strangely still makes a lot of sense 😆
