Closest I got to one was in Milwaukee, but we got there late and had to leave early so I didn't have the time to visit the county Zoo to check one out.

In short, it's an injection molding machine, except it's intended as a curiosity rather than a factory machine. They make various toy figurines and you get to watch as it happens as the whole mechanism is under a transparent dome.

Both are currently down, but when the lot are running, they are a lot of fun.
Iv watched work be done on them. It’s a bucket of hot plastic underneath. The output isn’t 100% perfect, so a box of good moulds is kept around to hand to kids who don’t get a good one.
There are a couple at the Henry Ford museum as well.

When I was kid we went the San Diego zoo and they had one that made wax figures. I got a cast of a cockatiel. They are really interesting machines.
