With the price of fuel rising China's BYD says it is positioning itself to benefit from the global shift away from fossil fuels.

in #Australia BYD recently dumped a bunch of EVs to benefit from subsidies that were running out. but they were worried they'd have to sit on a massive stockpile of #cars that would go unsold for a long time

    nope

i understand what you're saying but what you're saying is alien to many people (like americans):

          electricity prices can go negative

they pay you to take electricity

@benroyce @SteveJB I got my cheap VW EV in Jan 2016. I thought I was an early adopter in something that would sweep the nation.

I greatly overestimated the intelligence of my fellow Americans. We could all be driving EVs now, blissfully leaving oil behind as a world economy-controlling commodity.

              True.
But there is another possibility - in the oil endgame - the war drives up the market share and profits for US oil/gas companies as their competitors are gutted. More money to subvert US politics. They will not go away that easily. Plus they enjoy bipartisan support in the US.

It's rather disturbing how plutocracy and their media has hacked the minds of millions of Americans where dry issues like energy policy become an almost religious aspect of identity. All hail holy oil

Really hate that part - considering it would have been so easy for the US to transition to solar/wind/batteries/EV. So many states are already doing that despite the insane opposition.

@mls14 I made the calculation to buy EV in 2017 based on a diesel price of €1,14, as economical viable. At current prices of double that value, people still argue electric is too expensive… It looks like only the Chinese have understood electrification.

@mls14 @benroyce @SteveJB We got our Kia EV6 in 2023, and it’s by far the best car I’ve ever driven, let alone owned. There need to be cheaper options, for sure, but I can’t understand more people not switching to EVs.

Much damage has been done to our societies and the #climate due to #fossilFuels

The alternative was always there, but it was systematically destroyed

@benroyce So Trump IS playing 11-dimensional chess and wants to promote renewables. 🙃
