    Why do we all accept that shower screens should be glass? They're a pig to clean and everybody wants privacy in the shower anyway.

      @anon_opin The glass isn't totally transparent. I'm pretty sure that there's a tint or something installed on those so that folks can see out, but others can't see in.

        @jdking92 @anon_opin It depends. You’re right that a lot of shower glass isn’t entirely transparent, but I’ve never seen one-way glass/mirrors used in showers. However, there can be an effect of proximity—a person inside the shower is typically quite close to the glass, and a person outside would be a few meters further, therefore getting a different “effect” through the glass.

        It’s usually more of a lensing effect that creates the vision obstruction rather than a film.

            @anon_opin because you want a lot of light in the shower for things like shaving, and traditionally bathrooms haven’t had lights directly overhead water fittings for safety reasons (this has now changed due to the availability of good low-voltage lighting options)

              @anon_opin What material would be less of a pig to clean? Glass is pretty easy, considering.

                @anon_opin

                Glass in a shower is dangerous: it shatters if you fall on it, and then your weight pushes you down on to sharp spikes. All the ones I've had for at least 25 years have been plastic.
