Glass in a shower is dangerous: it shatters if you fall on it, and then your weight pushes you down on to sharp spikes. All the ones I've had for at least 25 years have been plastic.

You’re right that a lot of shower glass isn’t entirely transparent, but I’ve never seen one-way glass/mirrors used in showers. However, there can be an effect of proximity—a person inside the shower is typically quite close to the glass, and a person outside would be a few meters further, therefore getting a different “effect” through the glass.

It’s usually more of a lensing effect that creates the vision obstruction rather than a film.

I'm pretty sure that there's a tint or something installed on those so that folks can see out, but others can't see in.
