    What’s happening in Tennessee is the epitome of systemic racism and the fall of democracy in America.

      @markwyner This is pretty much a coup by one faction.

      The question is, what the people in the US will do once voting becomes a non-option...

      @ShnoofleBear yep. Those folks who think we can vote our way out of this. I hope they’re right, because that’s a lot less horrific than being in the streets (man, I hate tear gas). I just don’t see it happening.

          I'm just sitting here waiting for someone to do anything besides vote, I hear a lot of chirping, don't see much though. Between the chirpers and the both sides are the same, lesser evil, Kamala wasn't a good candidate idiots, it's no surprise we're where we are.

            @markwyner@mas.to I've been shouting this for years, now. The entire idea of MAGA was to put us at a post WW2 state. This absolutely includes Jim Crow laws, McCarthyism, Japanese (now just anyone without white skin) internment/detainment. And, I'm starting to feel genuinely afraid of typing anything at all on the internet because there has been a bill introduced (that will likely pass) to detain people with opposing political views of this government. Long story short - we need to organize on a large scale; and fast. Any neoliberal (i.e. DNC) venue of doing so is going to be a neoliberal outlet that only wants controlled opposition.

              @markwyner Its so easy. Get the data of the last elections of each office and redraw in such a way that seats represent the votes. So it 10 seats are available and 60% voted GOP and 40% DEM, redrawing should end up 6 seats GOP and 4 seats DEM.

              That would be fair in a system that really isn't, because 'winner takes all' on district/state level is crap to begin with.

              But they will never do that.

                @markwyner

                The Republican rationale is rich: "tax relief for working families like no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime".

                What they're not saying is "no tax on billionaires", which is the status quo they support.

                Tax the money that's being hoarded and suddenly there's money for everything else and everything else.

                  @yappari framing is always super important. Mostly because so many people have no idea what’s happening. And following good black activists will always be a wise decision.

                        @yappari @markwyner I think democracy inherently includes voting rights, so framing them as separate concepts risks undermining the specific protections needed for equal access.
