@dw_innovation This is why i’m ending my long relationship with Apple iOS, and stopped upgrading my MacOS.

    Linux phone, here I come.

@gimulnautti @dw_innovation I use the only Android phone I have for two apps.

I have always thought of it as incomprehensible the idea that you buy a modern smartphone with the principle that the OSs are designed
      a) to scrape as much of your data as possible and
      b) connected to App stores designed to make you spend as much money as possible and grab even more of your data
in order to have access to "secure" messaging.

Good that the basis for my scepticism has now been confirmed.

@gimulnautti @dw_innovation I only use a dumb phone for phone calls and daily texts and basic photo taking and a pair of PinePhones for everything else.

@dw_innovation Disappointing to see Signal jump on the anti-AI bandwagon. Given vulnerabilities seen in android notifications, windows, and nearly every OS the client can run in I don't see how AI changes this at all

@Whimsy @dw_innovation Correct. If you're using a hostile OS it's already to late. It's like complaining about MS implementing AI in OneDrive, it doesn't make files less secure because the backdoor is already wide open. If signal can send notifications through Androids system manager then Google/government/etc have already seen your messages. I'm sure windows is no better.

@Whimsy @dw_innovation If I'm trusting the lock picking lawyer with the spare keys to my house for safe keeping, I'm not going to panic when he gets another new lock picking tool.

But if I'm anti-lock pick I'll be unhappy at him getting a new tool regardless of actual risk.

@kneoghau @dw_innovation Anti-AI bandwagon? There must be a lot of room to jump on that wagon, compared to the rolling Jonestown carrying the pro-AI boosters.

Maybe Mozilla can send Signal some sloppy mushrooms to change their mind?

@BoysenberryCider @dw_innovation I know mastadon has a heavy anti-AI bias, but if you think you're the majority why is the 5th most visited website on the internet chatgpt? Seems like the AI bandwagon is still bigger, despite social media echo chambers

@kneoghau @dw_innovation That's exactly my point, AI has a far bigger bandwagon than a few malcontents on a non-mainstream social platform. Likewise, every other tech company is on that AI bandwagon, so it's more of a surprise that Signal isn't (contrast Telegram, which cut an opaque deal with Musk to incorporate Grok).

@dw_innovation given the fact that @signalapp is hard-locked on #aws, and thus subject to #CloudAct, "#Ai" - #Malware is the least of their problems!
