@leanderlindahl what was your method? Did you have any difficulty with it? Anything you would do differently now having done it?

@Lizette603_23 I used string and tied it up like you would cucumber. No I didn't find any difficulties. It's simpler actually, because you can see better "what's going on" with your plant.

@Lizette603_23 The soil depth seems good, what I'm not sure about is the 8 inches width of the trellis. I would go for a larger one if I could, but maybe you can make it work?

@meraord I have two, so thought I'd put them side by side in the dirt.

@Lizette603_23 yes, last year, it works fine and I'll be doing it again this year.

@Lizette603_23 this thread is very educational! Learning different ways to do this I hadn’t thought about. I had a lot of wooden tomato stakes and used twine to lash the growing summer squash to the stake two years ago. Worked very well. Last year I grew some zucchini in wire tomato cages which was ok, but harder to harvest.

@Lizette603_23 it's a very cheap metal arch that I use to span between two raised beds.

@IcooIey @Lizette603_23 I've tried that with cucumbers, and trained them up a wire fence. But courgettes grow well here and I'm not that fond of em so don't bother. I get it though Lizzie, they're big plants for a tight space.

@Lizette603_23 that's exactly what I used the other one for - they were something silly like £15 for a pair of them and it made it so easy to pick the veg.

@Lizette603_23 @GPJohnston there is a variety I’ve had called Spacemaster that is more compact. I like yellow squash better than green zucchini myself.

@IcooIey I'm trying a new zucc this year, Triumph, it's supposed to be far less apt to develop mildew and is resistant to vine borers, although the times I've tried growing it on my deck I only ever had one slight indication of those. Mostly they just won't grow when "on" the deck vining. Hoping upright will do the trick.
