i think society would be better if they just handed out money to people no questions asked, but i suppose it's true some people might use it to be happy

@aeva one thing I don't understand is they keep talking of privatising to allow for concurrence. I don't see why an unregulated couldn't be in concurrence with a regulated one. Like sure, 10 years ago, france had massive investment in power and actor coming to the maeket had none so competing would have been hard but that's the market. Instead they split the power making and power selling, forced selling power at cost for 10 years so other could invest. Spoiler, they made no invest, only profit
@aeva ok, it's not entirely true. A few cooperative did investment in wind and solar farm and seems to be profitable.

"but how will we force people to work without the threat of poverty" buddy it's not like I'm gonna stop making video games
@aeva they might stop making video game for PS5, focusing on linux and wii and maybe PS4 if it has a nice homebrew setup

@aeva (reasoning is linux is free of slopware, wii are ubiquitous, PS4 offer nice visual in a package cheaper than a desktop computer)

@aeva the ghost of Maggie thatcher circles this post with her insane ideas
-
@aeva basically modern monetary theory
@pearofdoom i don't think any government has yet implemented my "just hand out money to anyone who wants it, literally anybody, no questions asked" policy

"but how will we force people to work without the threat of poverty" buddy it's not like I'm gonna stop making video games

@aeva ok, there is slop inside linux but my point is more linux don't take screenshot if you screen every three seconds before sending it to resdmon for OCR. Mostly because wayland cannot take screenshot. It's a security issue apparently.
* go see if tuxcart can be ported to wii *

they literally can't run out of money they're the government they can just make more of it "but what about inflation" buddy we literally cannot run out of numbers
@aeva Are there any political ideologies that are pro inflation? It seems like all it does (assuming labour costs keep up) is devalue cash assets, which is another way of saying someone else's debt. And that seems good actually?

@aeva ha I had a similar thought the other day
Meznor (@Meznor@mstdn.social)
here’s my 100 days in office as Canada’s prime minister: $1 million for every Canadian, no strings attached. What’s that, like, a $50 million budget? no AI data centres. just pure hard cash. pay off your debts, invest, do what you want. use the would-be data centre money to build houses for every single person including the unhoused. all of this would be exponentially cheaper and have more value to people.

@aeva i place her as one of the main reasons why we have this stupid "government debt = household debt" nonsense, especially on this wet rock of dissapointment and depression...
-
i think society would be better if they just handed out money to people no questions asked, but i suppose it's true some people might use it to be happy
@aeva Some people will use it to get way TOO happy
-
"but how will we force people to work without the threat of poverty" buddy it's not like I'm gonna stop making video games
@aeva Most of the work people in my industry do makes my life, and the world at large, much worse. I would be happy if they just stopped working. We have the technology for the world to operate with maybe 10% of people working 5-20 hour work weeks when they want extra money or want to do things that excite them and everyone else just refraining from making the world worse and doing non work things that make it better as they like.

I'll happily spend 40 hours a week doing science. What really grinds my gears is all the bureaucracy BS hustling for grant money.
Just give me a lab and a yearly total budget of ~250000€ for buying stuff, paying contractors and paying my salary from, and allow me to carry any leftover into the next fiscal year. I'll churn out royalty free medical imaging tech.

@datenwolf @aeva This. Even if you have a rate of 10% or even 50% cranks, this system would turn out more and better prosocial technology than capitalism ever could.

@aeva That's the opposite direction in respect to the invention of money itself.
Existence of money is the key to divide people between richness and poverty. If you let anyone live a decent life, regardless of money, then money looses its meaning.
