    @pascaline @Eetschrijver

i was once in a thread with someone from eastern europe who obviously did not have english as their first language and used the ableist r-word

i just told them this was an extremely vile word to use in english, and they edited their comment and thanked me

i didn't start piling on them with judgment and vitriol

we all should learn to try a little understanding first before bringing out the machine guns of judgment. of course, if they double down, bombs away

    Exactly! 💗
That's such a great response. People sometimes really have no idea. It's best to first ask, and not ask while holding a weapon.

I posted only moments earlier how important it was to both vote in the primaries as well as the election saying that yes your lives really do hang on the results.

      That is truth.

But it is also truth that this is not going to be that easy or that straight forward and the only result with any chance of success - a Democratic supermajority everywhere - is going to be a reach, even if it works.

what i will do though is say that my purpose here is more constructive than yours at this particular moment. we're about to have primaries. we need to fire people up. you agree?

              sure.

but didn't Marx say that Socialism could happen only after capitalism ran its course and people realized they either united, or died?

We can agree on the general point.

I think the point of disagreement is on foreknowledge.

One school of thought says it's best to know up front what you're up against. Good and bad.

Another says people can't handle that. Keep the message simple, details confuse.

Both may be right to different audiences under varying circumstance.

I prefer full message. Reason why is when folks deliver on simple thing but still in Shit Creek, not knowing details got em.

                  But your thread so *waves.

@benroyce @mistergibson I don't get why so many people wouldn't back down on genocide as their red line. I mean, the head count was nowhere near how many innocents died in the Holocaust, and that was small compared to the death toll in Congo. (I mean, the official Gaza death toll. Credible sources measure it at hundreds of thousands.) But is that even a genocide? I mean, yeah, it is, but it's okay if it's just a little genocide, isn't it?

I bet all the bleeding hearts were swayed by all the video coming out of Gaza. True, we didn't see inside the Nazi concentration camps until we broke them open, so it was probably unnerving seeing so many children dismembered and suffering in realtime in Gaza. And, well, all those bombs were blue, because Biden sent them. But still, if all it took was a candidate who committed to not funding a genocide, couldn't they have hopped down from their privileged ivory towers, held their noses, and voted for just a few little bombs? Plus, maybe Harris didn't really mean it when she said she supported Biden's policies with regard to Israel. Didn't they think of THAT?

I just don't get these people who went to the polling booths and voted for a third-party candidate who didn't have a repugnant platform. Didn't they realize they were throwing away their votes in a system where incremental change is best achieved by supporting corporatist candidates? No one ever became President without that sweet, sweet corporate money.

(Don't even mention AOC or Mamdani. Anyway, they have ranked choice voting down there. Hardly seems American.)

The #techbro angle is well understood, but traditional media, that used to be more balanced, being capitalist entities that were dying, plutocrats merely purchased them and put their goons on the managing editor desks

                              Hmm.

So I was just thinking maybe it's like paranoia - where, is it paranoia if they really are out to get you?

Is it pessimism if (a) negative outcomes predominate and/or (b) it is in the interests of bottomless-resourced entities for said negative outcomes to manifest?

So this one time I nearly died.

When I was a kid, I made a rule. I said, if I was ever up against oblivion, I would fight my last no matter what.

When you *are up against oblivion there is no you left. I fought.

                                  sure.

but didn't Marx say that Socialism could happen only after capitalism ran its course and people realized they either united, or died?

well if we're going to sit around and wait for pure suffering, i suppose we could find a way to improve at that point

i'd like to improve now, rather than wait for the terrordome

I fought.

i would respond that negative outcomes predominate where negativism predominates

that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy

Most major #media and #socialMedia in the #USA is now right wing controlled

The #techbro angle is well understood, but traditional media, that used to be more balanced, being capitalist entities that were dying, plutocrats merely purchased them and put their goons on the managing editor desks

Watch this video of #Magyar going on #Hungary's version of #FoxNews (their state media) and announcing he is shutting them down

Now dream of that in the #US

To get there, you fucking #vote, idiots

Would be great if after saying “and that's why we're doing this” he pointed at the camera, and the station just went to a test pattern immediately.

Hardly seems American.)

i agree with your sentiment but please don't talk of genocide in terms of numbers killed. wrong is wrong. we win over those focused on the genocide in gaza with the harm reduction argument you make. we don't win anyone over with "yeah but it was just a small genocide." genocide is genocide
