    @Vivaldi Really thinking about switching to Vivaldi now as this is a feature I wanted for years already.. But I dont really want to give Google a complete monopoly on their rendering engine 😞

      @Vivaldi
      • Manifest V2 extensions won't work but Manifest V3 AI extensions will "Because Vivaldi is built using the Chromium web browser project, extensions available in the Chrome Web Store can also be installed in Vivaldi."

      • if liked the Big Tech browser engine Chromium used by Chrome, Vivaldi, Edge, Brave, etc... that would be okay but I am de-googling so no Google Chromium based Vivaldi for me.

      • if liked tabs, I guess Vivaldi would be cool, but I absolutely cannot stand tabs.

      So, Vivaldi is not for you. But the , why are you commenting? Find a browser that is for you, and go comment on there instead.

        @leeloo @Vivaldi Vivaldi could be for me. I am commenting here because the web browser for me does not exist. Allow Manifest V2 extensions; use a different browser engine like Servo, LibWeb, or build your own; and if Vivaldi was truly customizable I could turn off tabs amongst other features.

                @mmphosis @Vivaldi
                Vivaldi allows manifest V2 extensions, but they don't have the manpower to keep them working once upstream removes the code.

                The tab bar can be turned off.

                Using a different browser engine basically means a different browser, so if that's a requirement, then no, Vivaldi is not for you. As for building their own browser engine, again, they don't have the manpower.

                You could try building your own browser - you're probably the same number of developers short of having the manpower to pull it off as they are.

                  @Vivaldi As mentioned in your post, the previous implementation of Pinned Tabs never made sense to me. Restricting the pinned tab to a particular domain is a good step. However, I would like to see a keyboard shortcut that returns the pinned tab to the original pinned URL. Dia offers that option.

                          @Vivaldi
                          Sigh, it seems like I'm back where I started.
                          I used the Opera browser for years when first coming to Linux. I just managed to pay to remove the nag banner before It went free 😁
                          Then when it became just another chrome clone I switched to #Firefox, but given the latest "We heard you and we don't give a shit; here's some more AI" it seems I'll be giving #Vivaldi a try.
                          I have also been switching to #LibreWolf. Let's do a real A-B test 😀

                            @Vivaldi New tab features for everyone else, but not for me... try to drag a tab to tile it on a touchscreen and boom the browser locks for about 60 seconds, then just puts it in a new window once it unlocks.

                                Get your Browser into f-droid, Uptodown seems shady and is full of ads.

                                Host an own repo if you don't want to be in the main repo, or ask @IzzyOnDroid

                                Until someone manages to convince them to build their own f-droid repo, Obtanium can install Vivaldi directly from vivaldi.com.

                                      @Moosader I know, it wasn't our intention, it somehow fetched the whole federated blog instead of just showing the link preview 🥲 sorry!

                                          @Vivaldi Really thinking about switching to Vivaldi now as this is a feature I wanted for years already.. But I dont really want to give Google a complete monopoly on their rendering engine 😞

                                          @BafDyce we understand the dilemma, our team is still upset about the demise of the Presto engine, but we eventually had to choose what was best for our browser given the size of the team and the compatibility issues given the state of the internet. We contribute to the improvement of the web in as many ways as we can, but creating a browser engine from scratch was just not a viable option.
