@ana I also just feel like computers work differently from brains? So even if they achieve sentience, they would just be different? I guess I don't understand the obsession with comparing all other intelligence to that of people as though humans are *it.* there are tons of animals out there and they're intelligent, and they're just living their best life out there. We still don't understand their minds. Why do we assume we would understand this any better? Why can't it just live its best life?

"intelligence" is the scientific measure of how much someone else agrees with my opinions

@ana yeah we were reading excerpts from that one guy's transcript and we were thinking, the whole time...

so this is clearly how he would speak to any younger woman who admired him, and that's kind of creepy

@secretsloth totally. we're constantly assuming that our brains are just slightly more complicated versions of the most advanced machines we've created up to that point and we're always wrong because there is so much we don't understand at all

@ana To the techbro, the difference between men and women is that a man’s intelligence is an independent property, while a woman’s intelligence is dependent upon his interest in her.

@ana I think we're talking tech bro here, I'm a bit of a nerd and I'm pretty indifferent on whether women like me or not.

@ana yeah, and I'm all for learning and studying and science, but it is also okay to not 100% understand things. There is wonder in mysteries and there is something really amazing in having a connection with an animal friend even though we don't share a spoken language, we still communicate, we understand each other in a way. Sigh. I guess the technocrats with boundary issues probably wouldn't understand that.

and how will you recognize this "AGI" when you invent it, hmm?

"it will instantly realize the correctness of all my opinions and arguments and then congratulate me for being so smart"

@ana unless you're Sam Altman. His definition is the more gauche "it's AGI if it makes me a shitload of money"

@ana regardless, if/when they get anywhere near it there there will be tens of thousands of onlyfans girls out of a job.
So it could be argued it's impact will be felt equally. :))
