@moira for me, I think it is just that I have a sort of familiarity with a lot of numbers, I attach a particular meaning to them, like primes that I recognize or powers of two or numbers that are famous for one reason or another. And then a lot of numbers are close to one of those, so there is a hook to remember them. Or if not numerically close, they might have similar sets of digits. Like 69 is one of the famously funny numbers, so 269 is also memorable. Stuff like that.
