For me, Tim Cook will always and forever be that fake design award he gave Trump.

Not the supply chain optimization. Not Liquid Glass. The ass-kissing. It drowns out everything else.

@inthehands not only cook, the whole brand. they cared about where and how to put that logo. until they put it on an ugly trophy to kneel in front of everything the brand* never stood for.

*in case one believes in that “brand”/“value” stuff

@inthehands and many are supporting that by using Pear products.. stop using the promoters of #Drumpy and consorts.. we have the power...

Agreed, but it's not just the prize — it's what it signifies. It's an implicit admission that #Apple is willing to bend over for #Maga, and you won't necessarily get to hear about it.

When one's so shallow that they're willing to give an accolade to a cypher of a man, just for praise, the rest of one's ideas are much more likely to be likewise bereft of depth.

I'd say the 'award' is a perfectly reasonable microcosm of Cook's career.

@Pettet8 I agree, but there are unfortunately so many things that need one or the other of big tech. An example: In almost all aspects of society in Sweden, the bank association’s ID solution is mandatory to get anything done. That solution requires either Apple or Google infrastructure (and in addition a relationship with a major Swedish bank).

What was purchased before has been paid for and whether or not you use it will not change anything.
If Europeans need to change the equipment, buy non-Amerikkkan brands.

However, you should no longer buy an app from the store.

I had AirPods, iphone, and Watch (older than 7 years) that had battery problems. So I changed everything to European brands.
When my iPad must be changed, I will do the same thing ( event if the orange guy is dead) .

@Paul_stilgar @inthehands if we want to fight against apple or google or Microsoft, 1st we need to stop using them... I hate apple so I never bought anything from apple... I hate MS so I don't use computer or laptop.. Whenever I'll buy pc or laptop I'll use Linux directly. I hate Google so I'm using DeGoogled phone (asus). Some people asked me to use GrapheneOS, I told them I'll use it but with other brand, not with pixel. Without removing thm completely from life u can't say to anyone that..

@Pettet8 That is also true with (most) Swedish banks if you only need to perform classic bank transactions. If you need to send money immediately to someone, though, like paying for something at a bake sale, you have to use BankID, and thus Apple or Google phones. And the bake sale won’t accept cash, and even if they do, they won’t have change.

There are so many other things that are either impossible or artificially made much more complicated by not having it. You are expected to have BankID.

Had to look it up - it was not a prize, but a commemorative disk for the announcement to "increase [their] investment in U.S. manufacturing by an additional $100 billion over the next four years". (https://www.ap.org/news-highlights/spotlights/2025/trump-announces-apple-investing-another-100-billion-in-us-manufacturing/?utm_source=chatgpt.com).

Maybe not so much a bribe as a "try to remember what we did for a while there", with some gold from Utah (un?)helpfully added to the base to give it a nice weight.

Well. If so, then we at least now know it worked – on *us* 😃

@krupo Me: Apple, can you please stop leaking toxic gases into apartment windows and spilling mercury on that children's playground

Apple: Tim Cook's Apple: SET HER ON FIRE, BURN HER LIKE A WTICH, KEEP DUMPING CHEMICALS ON CHILDREN, DON'T LISTEN TO HER HEARSAY

For me, Tim Cook will always and forever be that fake design award he gave Trump.

Not the supply chain optimization. Not Liquid Glass. The ass-kissing. It drowns out everything else.

I just can’t agree with this. I mean…yes, I feel for the guy. I’ve never been in his position. I don’t know what kind of pressure he was under.

What I •do• know is that if you publicly, eagerly capitulate to fascists, whatever reasons you might have for that, you accept the consequences of that choice. Collaborators who capitulated out of self-preservation instead of belief are still collaborators.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io It was a really bad look, but there’s a lot more to him. I think anybody who’s been in a situation where you’re constantly pressured to look good, while you’re responsible for the company, will understand. Sometimes you nearly fall on your nose.
