@gareth @johan @kibcol1049 @peteriskrisjanis I worked as an apple certified repair technician back when this happened. The big problem is that they made this change to the phones without telling anyone they were doing it. Right at the same time that they released a new model of iPhone. Although their justification was believable, the timing was extremely suspicious. In short, they screwed up so royally that they agreed to replace the battery in any iPhone 6s regardless of how it tested. I was required to run the battery diagnostic, but whether or not the battery health was degraded, I was to provide free battery replacement for anyone who wanted one.

@gareth @kibcol1049 @peteriskrisjanis I’m happily using an iPhone SE from early 2021, the only issue for me is the battery life of approx 12 hours now!

@johan @gareth @peteriskrisjanis There were reports of new software updates slowing the device down so that people updated before they needed to. The reports are on line. If you are happy then they can't affect everyone.

@kibcol1049 @johan @gareth @peteriskrisjanis iPhone 12 w/0 issues. Bullied by family into getting 17 b/c OS next year. Currently iOS 26 supports iPhone 11 & up tho. Their other argument was a massive trade in deal (making new one less than hundred dollars) and that the trade in will be not worth much by the time I actually need a phone. That said, phone was stolen while going from NV to CA via UPS. Even phone knows I don’t want it.

@kibcol1049 @gareth @peteriskrisjanis This hasn’t been my experience at all. I’m on my 3rd iPhone, my first being the iPhone 6, then 11 and now 16. I have kept all of my iPhones for 5 years and have never upgraded because they stopped working or slowed down. I just feel like 5yrs is good enough value for me. At five years, reduced battery life is beginning to feel noticeable and enough improvements have been made for me to justify the upgrade.
