@FediThing This is more about the DL as personal ID, which is ubiquitous in the US. We use our DLs as ID all the time -- liquor store, club, bank, etc. This is about shaming and humiliating a disfavoured group, and making just living as hard as possible. And, ultimately, discouraging trans people from voting, where ID is also required.

@Goodlucksil the architects of this sort of thinking don't actually care about trans people one way or the other. This is a classic wedge issue just like abortion has been.

The solution to this problem, like every other mind-bending problem in the United States, starts with campaign finance reform. The path from there is unfortunately long and fraught with difficulties.

@alice considering distances & (lack of)infrastructure of public transport in USamerica, this means most will not be able to legally show up for work or get food. So not only is this fascist controll & discrimination it takes away their ability to live. Wow. USA has become worse than any 3rd world rogue state.
