If this is science, count me in.

Fun things to remember?
Flat bottom glass is helpful to measure out alcohol on the scale.
Water conversion ml to grams is 1:1, alcohol demonstrably is not.
New markers measure 17 grams from the store.
A dead dry marker weighs 14g.
15g marker works with a little dryness visible.

I have way more alcohol than I’ll ever need to refill this set of dry ones.
The tap plastic squeeze bottle (box labeled hypo 49 from gaunt industries) is perfect for applying to the fine marker end.
I didn’t realize I had some old markers that actually end in a micron style barrel. I refilled those from the chisel tip side.
Can just fill any marker weighing less than 15g, with some confidence.

A little bit, I wish I had saved my ‘cocaine’ scale (a very precise scale up to 100g from American science and surplus center) to better understand the weight of the different markers.
In the end it doesn’t matter - 15g or less, refill.

I had almost 40 markers to refill. I have 2 fresh packs of 12 markers. I should be good for tomorrows drawing marathon, even if I don’t bring the refills

I had 6 markers that didn’t need refilling that I previously wasn’t sure about. Now I know.

Oh! Also, open all the doors and windows BEFORE you start filling. And if you get dry fingers like I do, wear gloves

Four packs of new prismacolor markers is about 45 a pack, let’s say 160. So if they continue to work, it’s a win to buy a 6 dollar squeeze bottle and 16 dollars of human-safe ethanol.

Ok, so just over 1.5 days of leaving pens to rest vertically, and flipping them over once, both pen ends of the prismacolor see improvement. Including metal ferrule micron-style barrels.
I’d firmly recommend a mostly perfumer’s alcohol blend for refilling any prismacolor, at least once!
So .. happy 4/20?

44a fine line works again but is kinda gummy with pigment and probably needs a wipe down.
44a and 32a show most improvement.
There is very little color drift with the first alcohol refill. Colors remain vibrant and similar in application (possibly more ‘wet edge’ after refill? They are markers and are gonna bleed. I should do a bleed distance test with a standard sized circle or box fill pattern next time, or with a fixed camera and swatch positions to measure over time)

Making this feel a little pointless, yesterday an older lady showed me markers she bought new for .5$ apiece.
From Israel.
