"Not ready for an intelligent black woman".
Man, that's so PATHETIC.
@benroyce @Sassinake @aadeacon -
@wjmaggos @Eetschrijver @mistergibson
are you trying to sell the lie that people can't tell the difference between a conservative opinion and a bigot?
or are you trying to sell the lie that a lot of conservative opinions aren't outright bigotry?
@benroyce @Eetschrijver @mistergibson
I'm using the term cause you do but ime people here would most likely call it hateful. endless convos could and are had re what widely held conservative opinions are bigoted or hateful.
my argument is that while you may believe in compromise voting to make a country better, I don't understand how a prerequisite for that isn't being able to share a social network with such views. I support that. by not recognizing our situation here, you're against it.

@macacator @Sassinake @Eetschrijver @aadeacon
agreed
racist dementia uncle is not "just crazy"
but i will still assert that plastic and wooden is out of style
@benroyce @Sassinake @Eetschrijver @aadeacon we need another Obama

GJ isn't saying your comment is pathetic
they are saying the misogynoir sentiment you are describing is pathetic

because we don't want to waste our time arguing fruitlessly with bigoted morons
i want to make this quite clear to you: selling something as "just conservative opinions" when you know damn well support for trump is rooted in hate and prideful ignorance is a vile lie on your part
why don't you go to truth.social and say "trans people deserve their rights"
go
do it

but every single vote is a vote for evil or the lesser evil
there is no such thing as evil v good
there is only evil v lesser evil
in all times past, now, and all times future
even in revolution that is the choice between the fighting groups
the hannah arendt quote refers to those living under nazism, their choices outside of democracy
hannah would tell us to just fucking vote
(and 3rd party, without ranked choice, just divides the left and helps MAGA)
@benroyce @mistergibson Well, that's the central motivation behind my drive for ranked choice voting. It gets rid of evil-vs-lesser-evil, and doing it with ballot initiatives lets the people flex their muscle in one of the most powerful ways we can.
In the 2024 election, genocide was on both big tickets, so it gets really hair-splitty to call one "lesser evil". That is *exactly* what I was speaking to (sarcastically) when I was talking about the number of dead in Gaza. You *can't* rank genocides by quantity. Thus, on that one very hard-to-escape point, both tickets were equally evil.
And that's what we have to ask. At what point do we start accepting genocide as the cost of doing business? I hope we get to the point where the answer is "freaking NEVER." The question of the 2024 elections was "do I accept genocide to otherwise get the lesser evil?" I don't think people should have stayed home, but with everyone shouting at them that a third-party vote is a vote for MAGA, can you blame them for staying home?
For my part, I vote third party and call out "a vote for Stein was a vote for Trump" as the bullshit it is. But that's what people had to choose between if they just couldn't accept that they had to vote for the genocide either way. I'd rather have my vote tallied so the DNC can work the numbers and realize what supporting an actual atrocity cost them. Staying home is giving up.
Human suffering and the extermination of a people are not an acceptable price for my comfort.

The #techbro angle is well understood, but traditional media, that used to be more balanced, being capitalist entities that were dying, plutocrats merely purchased them and put their goons on the managing editor desks
Watch this video of #Magyar going on #Hungary's version of #FoxNews (their state media) and announcing he is shutting them down
Now dream of that in the #US
To get there, you fucking #vote, idiots
It is what should happen in the USA too.
A deMAGAfication of politics and the media, prosecute them, derail them an deprogram them… its the fascism of the 1930s…

'In the 2024 election, genocide was on both big tickets, so it gets really hair-splitty to call one "lesser evil".'
really?
trans rights. women's rights. the climate. healthcare. immigrant rights. i could go on and on
focus on harm reduction
focusing on one issue to the exclusion of all others and not voting or voting third party, only helps elect MAGA

@benroyce @mistergibson Alright, we've gotten to that point. It sounds like you're saying "I didn't like the genocide, but I was willing to accept it to avoid a bunch of other harms."
Is genocide really just the cost of doing business? Man, not for me. We have to draw a line somewhere. Exterminating people in gas chambers and its modern equivalents seems like a pretty good place to draw that line.

I just said above that people who support Magyar, once it's understood what views that includes, would not be welcome here. just like you're saying somebody who says they support Trump would not be welcome here. while afaict Magyar is better than Trump, I don't think most of fedi would think their views are decent enough to possibly stumble upon here.
please STFU re other networks. if you concede civics needs a place to share, we need to change fedi norms.

you're not drawing the line
you're saying "i won't vote or i will vote 3rd party" that has the only real world effect of helping MAGA win
you might say "i am declaring i'm not part of this system"
you live here. you are a part of this system no matter what you do. you're not an incorporeal spirit, you have a physical presence on this planet
you must act
morally
and:
every action in this world is imperfect
therefore, you must decide to act effectively, imperfectly

yes, you're arguing about magyar
when the topic is bigotry
this is changing the topic william
and no i will not STFU about other networks
you want to talk to bigots?
go where the bigots are. work your magic and make them nonbigots and bring them over
until then, we will not have bigots on the fediverse, no matter how naive and quixotic your thinking on this matter is

@benroyce @mistergibson Ben, push ranked choice voting with me. Push the idea of ballot initiatives generally, and also for this purpose explicitly. This won't conflict with any other action you take, and I think good can come of it.
It's only imperfect in that it's going to be a lot of work. I wish it would just happen, but it won't on its own. But man, I'd love our debates to revolve around different formulations of ranked choice and how different methods can lead to suboptimal outcomes in corner cases, instead of "who's going to send more bombs?"

yes, it will conflict
the push you refer to is called voting
the democrats fucking suck but the GOP made a blanket stand against ranked choice in 2024, so this is our only path forward to get it
not voting means helping MAGA win
voting 3rd party helps MAGA win in FPTP
you get that
so join me. let us take over the democrats

So far there is one Democrat, JB Pritzker, who places prosecution of current administration officials illegal acts at the top of the list for the next administration.

@benroyce @mistergibson Pushing ballot initiatives doesn't conflict with getting people out to vote at all. Ballot initiatives put things on the ballot. People still have to get out and vote for them. They're just the way that we can give people things to vote for that don't suck. Totally complementary!
The GOP made a blanket statement against RCV? That's fine. Ballot initiatives don't need GOP or DNC buy-in.
If people don't vote, both your plan and mine fall right apart.

what's the most conservative opinion you've seen expressed here w/o push back?
what we will have here based on your approach is a very small number of users scared to say anything unpopular lest they get angry replies, blocked and/or possibly kicked off their server for fear of it being fediblocked.
until some big community takes a more moderate position and is able to make having their own fediblocked server worth coming back to. then others join them.

@benroyce @mistergibson Here's a very good blue candidate to support:
Karishma Manzur for Senate | Official Campaign Website
Karishma Manzur is running for the U.S. Senate to deliver bold solutions for New Hampshire. It’s time for fresh leadership in Washington. A pro-worker voice that can’t be bought by billionaires. Let’s restore power to the people and build a future that works for all of us!

@wjmaggos @Eetschrijver @mistergibson
bigotry is objectively defined
some people will confuse, purposefully or innocently, certain political opinions with bigotry
some of them are even mods and admins
and?
servers do whatever the fuck they want
they federate or not with other servers as they desire
you dislike this? who gives a fuck
william: take your rationale, and federate with other servers on that rationale
stop pretending misrepresenting what bigotry means will fool anyone here
