No, an AI-focused "Windows 12" is not coming this year — here's the plan

A new report has caught the internet's attention, claiming that Windows 12 is coming this year and will be a modular, AI-powered OS. Here's why that's wrong.

@crackhappy @bweller @bmoreinis @mttaggart @catsalad Ubuntu said that's an open list discussion, not commentary from the developers or anything official. It's not instant anything, fortunately.

They've added a retraction/apology, but once bitten twice shy.

@mttaggart I'm in the same boat with Ars. It's a damned shame.

@mttaggart it’s reasonably interesting how it happened, but it doesn’t change that it shouldn’t have happened and should have been caught before it was published
So yeah, the chances of me taking anything from PC world seriously now are not zero but they’re not much above zero

@mttaggart seriously someone should try to vibe code a Linux distro just to see how much better it would be compared to Windows

@pl No, nothing, it's fine. Everything that sucks in Linux is good advertising for alternatives... 😉 ...
