This looks like illegal geoblocking, I’m in the EU
@humanhorseshoes @SylvieLorxu the site says it's temporary unreachable but the link works fine here for me so it is in dead illegal geoblocking.
Feel free to act accordingly.

If I was banned from being part of tech communities until the age of 16 or even 18 I would've never been able to learn all I did. I would've never been able to truly get into FOSS.
I would've never had a chance to become who I now am.
Age verification is literally killing the ability for kids and teens to excitedly participate and learn cool stuff and learn how to have digital agency.
@SylvieLorxu Same. I wrote my first line of code in Visual Basic around age 8 or 9 under the guidance of my grandfather, then started to fiddle around on my own computers when I was 10 yo. I then continued to learn programming online as a teenager, followed by a full migration to linux.
I can't imagine how different my life would have been if I had to wait 10 more years before learning so much about computers.

@TheOneDoc @SylvieLorxu If she is the answer it was a very stupid question to begin with. She has her analog here in Ireland, Patrick O'Donovan who has been on the same censorship hobby horse for years.
I would never call him stupid as that would be an insult to the stupid

@SylvieLorxu as a teacher I really enjoyed (and in fact used) the interest of my students in programming and encouraged them to do so as best I could. [I have just about no programming skills.] They became quite capable well before 13 years of age.

@humanhorseshoes @SylvieLorxu at this point I'm convinced the "conservatism" is a kind of cognitive disorder.

@SylvieLorxu @s_bergmann The damage we do right now with LLMs and people not beeing able to afford computers and prohibiting the next generation to actually learn will fuck us over so much. Any other country that doesn’t follow those tech Nazis bullshit will take over the world

@SylvieLorxu Oh no. First, stop kids exploring the offline world (road danger, nasty people). Then stop them exploring the online world (porn, nasty people). What are they supposed to do?

@SylvieLorxu computer tech as a field is going to run into a decade of missing specialists because of this kind of shit. kids can't participate in software development because of draconian laws. fresh graduates can't get a job because of AI.
@lunareclipse all of that +seniors are not teaching juniors, but babysitting stochastic parrots instead.

@bunny @SylvieLorxu What will happen when you move country or cross a border? Europe is SHIT at consistent rules.

@SylvieLorxu you know who has always sucked? Apple

Apple Cuts Off Under-18 Darwin Developer - Slashdot

He's been nominated to become a Darwin contributor (which comes with limited check-in privileges) but when going through the process, Apple found out he'...

@humanhorseshoes @SylvieLorxu make that the EPP, ECR, PfE, ESN and Renew groups in the Parlament.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_groups_of_the_European_Parliament <-- for thouse of you not from the EU or not interrested in the Parlament here's a quick table to what is what.
Sadly S&D, the Social Democrats usually fail to see what's going on but at least they can be woken up by a loud public kick in the ass.
@TheOneDoc @SylvieLorxu I am from the EU even though it’s painfully obvious the EU wants us to disappear and be replaced by the UK
-
@bunny @SylvieLorxu My issue is endlessly having to explain over and over and over and over and over again that I am from an EU country and no we didn't Brexit. It is exhausting and stops me from living in the EU as it is relentless and I don't have the 4 years it tales to take a legal case to prove "rights" I already am supposed to have
-
@bunny @SylvieLorxu If you are in France and live and work in France EU rights are fine. This is the same for Denmark. The problem is when you are from France and move to Denmark.

@SylvieLorxu
I started to learn programming when I was about 10, but the internet didn't come around until much later. By then the crappy computer classes in school had pretty much killed my enthusiasm for it. I wonder what it might have been like for me if I had had online communities to help me while I still had the drive. -

@SylvieLorxu not just tech my Scottish godson started university at 17. Consequently he couldn't sign up for loads of student societies because he was under 18 and they would have to comply with child protection legislation. No sailing, although he'd sailed dinghy and yachts for 9 years by then, no kendo, etc, etc.
