    Most autos that have cellular and bluetooth hookups use a module. That is because of the costs of testing and licensing a circuit board for every revision if it has the radio hardware on board. Same thing is done in laptops and computers for their WIFI/Bluetooth hardware.

      The module either needs to electrically cut the data lines. Fun bit. This could be done only while the car is in motion, and maintained for a set period of time after motion stops. Smart filtering may be needed if GPS data goes over the same data lines.

        @Eka_FOOF_A the Problem is that every car sold ib the #EU since 2017 has that #Surbeillance bullshit under false pretenses aka. #eCall preinstalled.

        • And it's mandatory.

        Which is why I can't and won't drive any new car!!!

          @kkarhan
          Sounds like a mandatory tracking system. Cellular modems and phones ping near by towers when they detect a new tower. This is for faster routing of calls to the phone. It also leaves a series of breadcrumbs for where you have traveled. This would all be handled on the cellular modem card. In fact it is handled by the cellular interface processor.

          Smart filtering could allow data transmission for accident reporting if there is a sudden physical jolt.
