    Friend wanted a marina slipway monitor so they know 1. who to charge 2. if someone has gone out and not returned 3. just on g.p.

    It uses a Zebra FXR90 UHF RFID Scanner and a Raspberry Pi

    Quite happy with how it's turned out so far.

        @ukscone sounds interesting, and desire to know more intensifies: how wide is the slipway/what if you miss a read (can the position of the boat mistakenly flip from home to away somehow?)

          @ukscone looks good! Congrats!

          Did they ask for any reporting capability?

            @reverseics Those are edge cases i'm still working on. the range of this particular reader* is theoretically max of 100feet although it gets iffy after 55feet. I use timeout periods of tag entering field/leaving field so theoretically it could but some safeguards and manual overrides available. the biggest thing i have to deal with is that reading the tag's tid is more slower and error prone than tag's epc but dealing with that using the readers ability to run filters onboard

              @kamihack not specifically but i've added stuff like that and it also sends the boat/tag info to a remote server if the endpoint is enabled. i'll probably add some reports to the admin page

                @reverseics also just had a spec change request -- ARGH! not again. rather than boats make it sailors (in case someone falls out of a boat and noone onboard notices) not a major deal but still a pita to change all the labels and modify the logic a tad

                  @ukscone heh oof.

                  where my boat is going this summer (Duluth, MN), falling over is a bit of a death sentence due to the water temperatures...funny requested change. I guess this is for a yacht club with borrow-able boats?

                    @reverseics I believe that the club owns most of the boats but some people have personally owned boats stored there during the season.

                    The app request came into being because they run a summer camp and training sessions for kids and teens so needed extra safety monitoring but they are expanding it to everyone after a few testing sessions and weather survivability tests.

                      @ukscone Sounds fantastic. i wish my yacht club had something like that.

                      high tech solutions sounds hard but could be really useful and help people check out boats. good on ye for helping out. now I want to read up on these zebra readers, they look interesting for toy tracking.
