I wonder if crosshatching or colouring a section of cycleway and drawing a box in the other lane at suitable points on roads to require stopping Waymos to stop in the box and warning everyone there may be crossings of the bike lane would work. Otherwise it is floating stops etc.

Ok, for once in my life, I'm on Waymo's side on this. You're focusing on the car. Focus instead on the people. Taxis have been stopping in travel lanes to discharge and pick up passengers ever since we have had taxis. Now we're supposed to expect taxis to NOT drop off and pick up at the curb because bike lanes are somehow different from other travel lanes? If I'm driving a taxi, I'm going to let my PEDESTRIANS out at the sidewalk. I'm not going to ask them to get out of my cab in the middle of the street.Yes, it's a dedicated bike lane, but it's not sacrosanct. Waymo isn't in the bike lane just for the hell of it. Would you like to get out of a cab and step into a the path of a biker?
