That’s not AI. That’s your boss hiding behind AI.
Blame shifting is one of the few actual uses of 'AI'.

@Orb2069
@avuko @threatresearch @thomasfuchsI heard the school building had been a garrison years ago, but has undergone quite some change and construction work since then.
I'd guess that chronological ordering is too far from the LLlM's principle of probabilistic guessing. Blind and reckless use of the wrong tool. Regardless of novelty admiration: if you bring your shiny new rotary tiller to surgery, there will be blood on the wall.

@groxx these consultants have their heads so far up their own asses than they can see light again

@thomasfuchs FYI, if my family had virtual access to community, entertainment, and employment, this might actually play out. Now, hard drives are expensive, jobs are being cut "due to AI [diversity/worker power]", and the programs I depend upon to get by are under attack. So I still need VR to be a reality, but only after the Real reality gets fixed. 🥺

@thomasfuchs Ha! That’s awesome! Do you know what year that was published?
@danyork @thomasfuchs McKinsey's "Value creation in the metaverse" is from November 2022. I'd guess this is a companion chart from that

@thomasfuchs Great reminder that hype is just hype.

@thomasfuchs the metaverse was always just stupid. AI has real potential, it is currently very overhyped. But there will be significant business-use-cases in the future. Impact on employment is still a big question.

@thomasfuchs and all the while, VRChat has been connecting (predominantly) furries since 2015 and will continue on. But with no hype, and no "impact potential".

Remember that the same people say the same thing about AI

@thomasfuchs LLMs are way more useful than the metaverse ever was but the metaverse had a much more straightforward path to monetization... it's still not clear if people are going to be willing to path for what the LLMs actually cost given that all vendors are subsidizing the crap out of them with venture capital and investment right now.

@thomasfuchs it's too bad the early 2020s version of the VR hype cycle took down AR, which did have some interesting use cases outside entertainment.

@malwareminigun @thomasfuchs imo the strategy quite simply is to get people used to integrating LLMs into their workflow (or rather any tasks of their daily life) so deeply that once it's time to pay the full price there's no way they could let go

@metrobahn I don’t think it’s that simple
1. There are a lot of competing vendors making similar products and if a vendor makes it cost what it actually costs people will just go to someone else.
2. Even some people who wouldn’t want to leave might see sticker shock when they’re paying hundreds of dollars a month.I think all of these vendors are hoping that there will be some crazy efficiency improvement. That’s happened for some models, but hasn’t happened for frontier models. https://youtu.be/mRWLQGMGY80
