@stevegis_ssg @Weirding_Is_Real @Nickiquote I'd get it without the meat (or fake meat if available) but would eat that now.

@Nickiquote no, but I knew exactly what it was, since I watch a lot of UK content.

I will add crisps to a sandwich that has a soft filling, like tuna salad. It gives it that perfect mix of textures.

I was involuntarily listening to two old ladies talking loudly to each other the other day. One, to the astonishment of the other, said she had never had a chip butty.

Being a true man of the world, I have had many chip butties in my time.

FYI, if needed, a chip butty is chips (ie french fries, NOT crisps) sandwiched between bread slices or in a bap/bun. Arguably it should be buttered, but we will ignore that for the purposes of the following poll:

          Q. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A CHIP BUTTY?

@Nickiquote I could have eaten a chip butty any time in my younger days but the taste of starch on starch doesn't appeal. Why waste good chips on bread?

Now I'm older I'm still fine with choosing to miss that.

The place we went to in Paris (a chain called Otacos) offerred both fake meat and falafel as "meat" options.

@Nickiquote I haven't, but I have had a bacon butty! Visiting family in the UK, we were on a highway and saw banners advertising them for something ridiculous like ยฃ1 at the next rest area. Nothing in the name suggested food to our American ears ๐Ÿ˜‚ Our driver felt this ignorance had to be rectified, and so we ended up with a sack of bacon butties and everybody got one and we ate them standing up outside the car, butter dripping down our hands. One of the most decadent things I've ever eaten.

@sbourne Not what I'd call "decadent" but have you tried a peanut butter and bacon sandwich on toast? Or a bagel works well too.

I should have said rest of the world, but my origins are (sadly) the UK - Specifically WALES, but the bureaucrats don't allow for that.

So now, I am Welsh by birth, British by nationality, European because of residence (Spain) and (I certainly try to be) a human being of planet Earth - "For ALL humanity", not any particularly vociferous, obnoxious, overly-resourced, fascism-oriented minority of any kind.

@Nickiquote not like that but we in Belgium have the "mitraillette" which is half a baguette filled with your choice of friterie meat (think weird sausage, kebab, pitta meat, hamburger meat, ...) and fries, topped of course with your choice of sauce.

I appreciate you are translating for our transatlantic brethren, but a chip butty is not made with French fries, which are the spindly little things you get at a burger chain. Proper chips for a proper chip butty! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, yeah, and there are fries (sorry, sorry, "chips") in French tacos*, too.

*French tacos are not tacos, although they are called that in French. Meat (originally donair), cheese sauce, and chips wrapped in a flour tortilla like a burrito, then press-grilled like panini.

I find the concept of french tacos truly amazing. A nation renowned for its food managed to invent a wrap containing the entire stock of the kebab shop! And they're everywhere! People love them.

@Nickiquote fries as an addition [insert x dish] is a surprisingly common feature among Dutch snack places, but so I think we're spoiled for choice. It can make a chip butty seems a little bit... plain?

Yup, I have had many a chip butty, made with proper chips from a proper chippie, back when I was still eating gluten.

But, have you ever had a #ChipLoaf

The car is loaded with carboot stuff for tomorrow. The memory stick of music works. My phone has 4x as much memory in it. I have eaten two bits of rocky road, and two hot cross buns, and I am starving hungry. Yes, I did have lunch, but I am also low on weight since the weekend in Leicester. I feel like I could eat a chip loaf*! *A chip loaf is school days food when I was a young teenager. When we were allowed out for lunchtimes we'd go to the bakery to buy a tin loaf and ask for the end crust to be cut of. We'd then walk to the chippie eating the centre out of the loaf. At the chippie we'd ask for the hollow loaf to be filled with chips. We'd then eat that while walking back to school. #ChipLoaf
