The Conversation: When war looks like prophecy: How U.S. ‘end time’ narratives frame the war with Iran https://theconversation.com/when-war-looks-like-prophecy-how-u-s-end-time-narratives-frame-the-war-with-iran-278292 @TheConversationUS
@AAKL @TheConversationUS the MRFF got like a hundred complaints across thirty installations of commanding officers doing shit like gleefully talking about the Iran war specifically being about kicking off Armageddon.
The US military has a huge doomsday fundamentalist problem in leadership and has for decades.

@lapt0r @AAKL @TheConversationUS Except the MRFF hasn't actually been able to provide concrete evidence that any of those supposed complaints are real, and no one has gone to complain to any other media outlet or their senator or congressman, and no other media outlet has been able to corroborate MRFF's story.
Not saying there isn't a problem in the military. Just saying MRFF isn't the most trustworthy spokesman about the substance or magnitude of the problem. -

It's so painfully on brand for them I have zero reason to doubt the veracity of these claims.

@lapt0r @AAKL @TheConversationUS smdh facts and accuracy and verifiability actually matter.
Do you think it helps or hurts the cause of keeping religion out of the military when the organization purportedly at the vanguard of fighting for it gets caught making shit up? -

Do you think it helps or hurts the cause of keeping religion out of the military when the organization purportedly at the vanguard of fighting for it gets caught making shit up?@jik @lapt0r @TheConversationUS It looks like more than 200 complaints were made to MRFF. I see no other organization mentioned. But there are some wild claims out there https://www.financialexpress.com/world-news/us-news/trump-anointed-by-jesus-iran-war-was-gods-divine-plan-what-us-military-commanders-told-troops/4162672/

Same for anything from Murdochosphere, Sinclair group, probably Bezos at this point, anything Thiel has touched...
Active duty servicemembers also have restrictions around communicating with foreign nationals - this is part of the stuff they drill into your head during basic.
So if you're an enlisted 19 year old from an unfriendly (or unknown alignment) legislative district, who do you call?
I hope these claims are independently verified. I don't think foreign services will have a lot of success doing so, and I don't really expect the big US media players to play ball - they need access which will be pulled immediately if any sort of investigative journalism comes to the attention of the admin.

@lapt0r
The extent to which you are either missing or intentionally obfuscating the point is quite impressive.
I could quibble with some of the details of your long explanation above, but it's beside the point.
It strains credulity to the point of absurdity to suggest that (a) all those young, naive soldiers knew to contact the MRFF with their complaints and (b) *not a single soldier* chose to complain *to anyone else* with incentive to publicize their complaint.

You know that infosec saying, "Attackers only need to succeed once. Defenders need to succeed every time."
Well, for the MRFF's story to be corroborated, we only need *one* out of a supposed *hundreds* of complaints to talk to someone else.
The fact that hasn't happened is incredibly strong circumstantial evidence that MRFF's claims are made up.
