    pandoc decidedly not fast on MacOS. Or it is locked up. Just goes "whoop!" on Ubuntu. Still .... running ... on MacOS.

          @Sempf I like the idea of LaTex and I have several documents written in it that I update periodically but man the toolchain ecosystem is bad. Big lists of huge packages to pull down. I ended up spinning up a Docker container on a server at home as a dedicated LaTex install

            @Sempf I like the idea of LaTex and I have several documents written in it that I update periodically but man the toolchain ecosystem is bad. Big lists of huge packages to pull down. I ended up spinning up a Docker container on a server at home as a dedicated LaTex install

              @nuintari It's apparently all the LaTeX libraries that Mac needs. And it is a MONSTER. So I'm gonna go finish my cigar from last night.

                    @nuintari @Sempf Yeah, the full distribution is huge. You can `brew install homebrew/cask/basictex` if you want a smaller install. But that won't help you if you have some other install that depends on `mactex`. It's annoying, because AFAIK most of the bloat comes from PDF documentation, but not the hill I'm going to die on.
