@eff Both companies control the client applications, the operating systems, and are required by multiple jurisdictions to run client side scanning.
Never be fooled by transport encryption, even if it is end-to-end.

Still gonna be advocating for the use of Signal as a new current standard.Until something better comes along. I’m personally rooting for SimpleX Chat and Matrix for this, due to the decentralised nature of both. I’m pretty sure SimpleX can be considered decentralised since you can change server in the settings.

Well, most private messengers are, aren’t they? But unlike Signal which is, in my opinion, fundamentally flawed, SimpleX delivers on some features where Signal falls behind. I think it has shown to be promising, albeit a bit rough around the corners.(I’m not trying to start an argument, merely speaking my mind. It’s difficult conveying tone and intent over text ain’t it?)

@neutronstar @eff there is no perfect messenger, no doubt. I mainly use Signal but a lot of friends and family I use it with are certainly using Gboard.
Signals reliance on cloud services is a blessing and a curse.
Decentralized is great but I much prefer other options to SimpleX. Matrix is my top decentralized option. DeltaChat was actually better than SimpleX imo.
