‘“Our data on the USA goes back to 1789. What we’re seeing now is the most severe magnitude of democratic backsliding ever in the country,” says Staffan Lindberg, founder of the institute.’ 2/

@heidilifeldman Strange coincidence that he goes by the name of Lindberg.

I agree. They are certainly compromised, but this can be corrected. Fixing the American people though…

@heidilifeldman that's not me having a go at you. I simply thought we were beyond this. Or is this The Rubicon for some? For us, it was a while ago.

@KathyLK @heidilifeldman Wouldn’t it be more useful to hold Trump accountable for his actions than to hold Biden accountable for Trump’s actions? 🤔

              @heidilifeldman
77 million voted for this. 80 million let it happen by non-voting.

              more or less they knew.

there are those excuses: "i didn't vote for this." "i didn't know this to happen." certain point those are not acceptable.

if enough of us wrote/emailed/phoned/screamed outside their office to our congressional
reps to IMPEACH or face voter outrage leading to being voted out, and kept it up,
eventually we could regain our democracy

If you know of actions bringing people together as a force
to be reckoned with, while the world is up in arms against
                Trump for so many reasons,
when the economy is getting ever worse ...

@heidilifeldman No, the US has always been more accurately described as a constitutional republic (if anything, maybe you can call it an indirect democracy, but definitely not a pure form of one). I believe this article best sums things up: https://www.standrewslawreview.com/post/is-the-united-states-a-constitutional-republic

Democrats were so concerned with decorum that they let a traitor get away with treason / sedition and then he got elected President.

They deserve to accept some responsibility for where we are right now.

@pinoycelt @heidilifeldman “The US falls under governmental classifications for both Indirect Democracy and Constitutional Republic”

This article sums nothing up, unless your point is that it is both a republic and a democracy. If that’s your point, I don’t see the relevance to the topic.

The issue at hand is that the USA has historically been a representative democracy, and the current trajectory will see it losing that status soon.

@KathyLK @heidilifeldman Wouldn’t it be more useful to hold Trump accountable for his actions than to hold Biden accountable for Trump’s actions? 🤔
