@blp I am US born and love peanut butter, but my Russian born husband can’t stand the stuff. (And no, not a sugars thing. Only natural peanut butter allowed in this house.)

@blp I have a Swiss friend who smuggles peanut butter from here.

They are much weirder than you think.

@blp I think it's more likely that a person from the U.S. has *had* peanut butter, but in my limited experience, people I know outside the U.S. who have tried it tend to like it. Ex: Reese's peanut butter cups are popular abroad.

Now, Root Beer is a different story. That one is much more likely to be something you like if you grew up with it.

@blp What I don't know of course is whether what I think of as "peanut butter" and what Americans think of as "peanut butter" are the same thing, or (like "chocolate") radically different.

@blp I blame my liking of peanut butter on having lived in Canada near the border for 18 months as a kid.

Marmite is infinitely better, of course.

@blp Save for actual allergies (which I don't think counts as "disliking"), people who don't like peanut butter are friggen weird. We're not talking something like lutefisk or salmiac liquorice here, what's not to like?

@blp To be clear I’m talking about slightly salted crunchy peanut butter. It’s a savoury foodstuff.

@blp @tshirtman I don't think we have any particular feelings because we take it for granted. Calvé, a brand of peanutbutter, used to, and probably still does, advertise with the slogan "Calvé, who hasn't grown up with it". And it might not have been Calvé, but we all have had it at some point in our youth. If not as a bread topping, then as a sauce with fries, fried rice or saté. Colonizing Indonesia being the source of the two latter ones and propably the pervasiveness of the stuff in general.

@blp didn't grow up in the US, but when feeling peckish around four in the afternoon I grab a spoon full of the stuff (only containing peanuts).

@blp Oh love #Pindakaas the non-sugar one. I always have a big jar of the stuff in the house. Also good ingredient for #pindasaus (fry cut onions/garlic until glaze, add peanutbutter and sambal of choice. Stir well and don't overcook. Eat with everything)

@blp I grew up in the U.S. and now live in Canada, where peanut butter is also quite beloved.

When you go to certain restaurants, the little containers of jam and jelly on the table are also accompanied by ones of peanut butter, which I've never seen in the U.S.

Ik hou erg van pindakaas, maar dan wel die gemaakt is van 100% pinda's.

Als er bijvoorbeeld palmolie in zit of suiker/zoetmiddelen hoef ik die niet.
