@blp I used to love it and eat it daily, often with Vegemite or bananas. But then a sibling kept eating peanut butter sandwiches in the car and now it's very rare for me to find any kind of peanut dish that doesn't trigger disgust reactions. Don't eat stuff with a strong smell in enclosed, moving spaces with other people!
I did not grow up in the US at all. -

@blp the Dutch have their own _brands_ of pindakaas. Funny thing, you can get Skippy too, but it's the local brands - less sugar and processed crap - that come in big jars.
My Scottish cousin needs to use his passport more.

@blp this was probably more true 5-10 years ago. Nowadays nut butters are trendy and this appears to have changed tastes

@blp I think it's more likely that a person from the U.S. has *had* peanut butter, but in my limited experience, people I know outside the U.S. who have tried it tend to like it. Ex: Reese's peanut butter cups are popular abroad.
Now, Root Beer is a different story. That one is much more likely to be something you like if you grew up with it.

@blp What I don't know of course is whether what I think of as "peanut butter" and what Americans think of as "peanut butter" are the same thing, or (like "chocolate") radically different.

@blp Save for actual allergies (which I don't think counts as "disliking"), people who don't like peanut butter are friggen weird. We're not talking something like lutefisk or salmiac liquorice here, what's not to like?

@blp @tshirtman I don't think we have any particular feelings because we take it for granted. Calvé, a brand of peanutbutter, used to, and probably still does, advertise with the slogan "Calvé, who hasn't grown up with it". And it might not have been Calvé, but we all have had it at some point in our youth. If not as a bread topping, then as a sauce with fries, fried rice or saté. Colonizing Indonesia being the source of the two latter ones and propably the pervasiveness of the stuff in general.

@blp didn't grow up in the US, but when feeling peckish around four in the afternoon I grab a spoon full of the stuff (only containing peanuts).

@blp Oh love #Pindakaas the non-sugar one. I always have a big jar of the stuff in the house. Also good ingredient for #pindasaus (fry cut onions/garlic until glaze, add peanutbutter and sambal of choice. Stir well and don't overcook. Eat with everything)
