Dutch members of the Waffen-SS were generally just put away as traitors and generally awful people. This of course is an oversimplification. This book uses diaries of members to shed some light on their actual motivations, what they went through, and how they were treated in the aftermath of the war. This book brings them down from demonspawn to regular humans, with their own (if somewhat flawed) moral compass and bad decisions. The author tries to be very factual, and places the diaries in context of what went on around the writers. A very interesting approach.
