@annaecook I find the herd mentality of it all so frustrating. Why does one "need" an AI strategy? What concrete problem are they trying to solve?? 🫠

@McNeely @annaecook a lot of it is motivated by fear, I think. As in, "if you don't get behind it, you'll be left behind, lose your job and starve to death", which is one of the main pillars of capitalism.

Which means people boasting about AI are either making money off of it or afraid they won't make any more money if they don't. Its utility or ethics are irrelevant when it is seen as the catalyst of one's own survival (or greed)

@annaecook I think many folks are towing the AI line because they're afraid they'll lose their livelihood if they don't. I don't think this is an irrational fear, however, given how corporations do layoffs, I don't think it really matters. You could just as easily get laid off while towing the line. It's indiscriminate.
