I don't think this is an irrational fear, however, given how corporations do layoffs, I don't think it really matters. You could just as easily get laid off while towing the line. It's indiscriminate.

As in, "if you don't get behind it, you'll be left behind, lose your job and starve to death", which is one of the main pillars of capitalism.

Which means people boasting about AI are either making money off of it or afraid they won't make any more money if they don't. Its utility or ethics are irrelevant when it is seen as the catalyst of one's own survival (or greed)
