After a week of unpacking closets, identifying family memorabilia spanning five generations, hauling trash, meeting lawyers and funeral directors, and taking my aunt and uncle on their last trip out to sea in the Gulf, I got to the Gulfport airport just in time to find out that my first flight was delayed and I'd miss my connection in Atlanta to Montreal.
So, this morning I woke up in an airport hotel in Atlanta, and as my friends and colleagues are rolling into Le Ministère to have a Fediverse event in the city where it all began, I'm waiting at a gate to board my flight home.

Last week, my uncle died. He lived alone in Gulfport, Mississippi. His partner died a few months ago. My mother is his closest relative, but she doesn't travel much any more, so I flew down to take care of the practicalities and settle his affairs.
@evan I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Evan.
Would love to be in Montreal but other things had to take priority. Good luck with the talk and hopefully you can get some downtime soon.
