Passengers in the sleeper cars get all meals included, coach passengers can opt in for meals.

I’m a fan of their breakfasts, I think it’s a nice way to start the day and it’s pretty good (diner quality omelets)

(I generally like breakfast and dinner on the train. I don’t love the sandwich / melts / burgers for lunch. They have other dishes at breakfast and dinner)

@skinnylatte Amtrak food is surprisingly good. Not fine dining, no, but thoroughly on the correct side of "acceptable". Miles above airline food.

Amtrak emailed to say they’ll be giving us Amtrak vouchers as they’re sorry about the train delays on the Southwest Chief.

If it’s a substantial voucher of some sort I’d like to spend it on a roomette. I’ve never been in one

                      11. Northeast Regional train to New York City

It stops at Newark airport on the way to New York City.

If I lived here I guess I would be on this often. The Acela costs more and is a little bit faster, but I haven’t ridden it yet

I'd love to take the Acela, but the difference between a $50 ticket and a $280 one has never been worth it for me either.

I switched to Verizon / Visible not too long ago, and cellular coverage has been.. visibly better than Google Fi / T-Mobile. I mean I think that’s true everywhere but particularly outside of cities.

If I were to do it again (a few long distance trains at a time), Visible plus AT&T will probably cover all bases. Some people have a complex setup with Glinet routers with 5G and failover but when I’m out of network I just sleep or read (or play games)

@skinnylatte Visible is awesome. I use one of their mobile plans for my internet at home. I live in the middle of nowhere and it's still faster than DSL.

@artcollisions @deirdrebeth @skinnylatte yeah, about 30 minutes between Boston and NY. It's always been a bit of a mess though, the shared tracks mean freight or non-Acela delays cascade out to it. A dedicated line that could do 160 mph the whole way would have been amazing

                                          11. Northeast Regional train to New York City

It stops at Newark airport on the way to New York City.

If I lived here I guess I would be on this often. The Acela costs more and is a little bit faster, but I haven’t ridden it yet

@skinnylatte just be aware that if the conductor is from New Jersey, when they announce ‘Newark’, you’ll think they’re saying ‘New York’! I’ve definitly seen (and occassionally been able to stop) people get off the train on the wrong side of the river because of that!
