Is it weird that I basically never charge my phone on a “wireless” charging pad?

I find it’s just like cable, only larger and more inconvenient, and it detaches easily plus shit gets hot to the touch.

@thomasfuchs Nope. The only wireless charger I use (rarely) is the one built into my car. Otherwise it's just the most convenient USB-C cable.

@thomasfuchs as a Sony Experia owner that has wireless charging but not using it.... I think this depends on the user experience & technical stuff. Magsafe chargers that keept things more in place, but intentionally it's easy to detach are a lot better (I don't have that).
Without that the alignment is crap, and that should give you more heat issues.
Also whether phone hardware is really compatible with various chargers -- some vendors are worse than others. But that also can be done welll.

@thomasfuchs so yes, in theory it can be good, in practice ---- in practice I use my Framework's USB charger that gets the job done extremely well

@thomasfuchs I have one built into a desk lamp, which is convenient. However, my personal phone also has a magnet for a Nite Ize Steelie (https://niteize.com/mobile/steelie) car mount on the back, so that one doesn't work on the pad.

@thomasfuchs I think wireless charging is mostly useful if you want to be able to like, charge your phone at your desk or in your car without fiddling with a cable 20 times a day. I've always just charged my phone overnight, so it doesn't really make sense for me, but I get why people like it
