From where I sit, I don’t think it’s a trap. It’s been clear for a while that they’re digging themselves deeper in a hole the longer they keep doing what they’ve been doing, and that they’re going to need to declare “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” so they can switch to some different awful thing.

I think they also used this exercise to evaluate response and how the courts, etc. would react to future power-grabs. I look for a big ICE build-up and strikes in the ~six weeks before the midterms to try to destabilize the election and consolidate power.
I think y'all have set a great example for the rest of the country. I wish I could buy you all a beer and hug all the people who have done the needful and displayed the kind of bravery that the U.S. used to be famous for.
