@mekkaokereke Reading this toot, I was just tricked into remembering I have a charitable giving account and after a few clicks, whoosh, they got my money!

@monkeyninja @mekkaokereke I just gave to SPLC openly and don't care if they know. Fuck em.
@not2b @mekkaokereke Same, but not everyone might feel as comfortable doing so and I like giving people options if I can. While folks like Miller neither need nor want an excuse to go after anyone, I can definitely understand that if you're a part of a targeted group that you might feel nervous about doing something that you perceive as pushing you even further under the microscope.

@mekkaokereke Man it would be a pity if people used services like Cloaked or IronVest for payments as they obfuscate the payer data, use zero logging, and are outside five-eyes territory. Then you could donate to such organizations fairly anonymously. It would just be such a shame if people knew about that.
@artemis Hmm, IronVest's consumer product is "Ivy by IronVest, your AI bodyguard for the internet!" https://getivy.ai/

@monkeyninja @mekkaokereke As a 501-c3 they might not be able to accept anonymized contributions, though.

@mekkaokereke Honestly, I had MSF (Doctors Without Borders) higher on my list of “places I regularly donate (and report to the government) that will be declared terrorist organizations.”
Of course, I never had such a list before the current administration, so the curation is sketchy.

@mekkaokereke link is broken. I went to their homepage and it’s the same donate link as there. I am hoping that your Post crashed their donation server and it will be back up soon.

@not2b @mekkaokereke Right on, I definitely didn't know that was the case, that's a great call out.
-
@mekkaokereke I have donated to them before, knowing full well about their use of informants to infiltrate the Klan. That is the work I wanted to support. I gave them more money after this stupid indictment.
The southern poverty law center calls out Indigenous water protectors in Hawaii as terrorists. I don't donate to them. I used to. Until they did that.

@FranceskaMann @mekkaokereke When did they do that? I can't find any reference to it.

They send out mailers to people who donate. They made that a cover story and then wrote about it. They called Hawaii's indigenous water protectors a "hate group". 14 years I lived in Hawaii. I never met a hateful Hawaiian person. I complained & stopped donating. I probably wasn't the only person who did so. So maybe they've stopped advertising and bragging about targeting indigenous people? I hope so.

Theres no need for subterfuge here. Just send them money. Theyre as legit as anything can be.

I use my credit unions "bill pay" feature. It lets me schedule payments, avoids credit card companies' take, and i can see at one glance who im giving money to.
I switched to this a few yrsr5s back after a spate of CC fraud where i had a new CC number every few months.
It confuses some orgs thet use CCs ro maintain "membership" (make you feel like you're part, benefits etc) but i just want them to have my money i dont need the frou frou.
