@blinry Mailbox.org. Simple and does not require any weird app for access. Plain and stupid IMAP access is provided (and a web interface)
Also it's hosted in Europe, they have their own data centers and a long history of email hosting.

@blinry tutamail - European, secure.. used them for a couple of years for my secure emails. Excellent.

Ich bin jetzt seit einigen Jahren bei mailbox.org und rundum zufrieden.
Das ist so eine Einschalten-Geht Lösung.Seinerzeit hatte ich auch noch parallel Posteo und Tutanota getestet, die sind aber damals mit eher schlechtem Support und Ahnungslosigkeit aufgefallen, insofern hatte ich die schnell wieder von der Liste gestrichen.

@blinry I’ve been happy with Fastmail.
If your family member is not a technical person and they’re ok with depending on you, having a dedicated domain can make switching providers painless.
The obvious caveat is that they become dependent on you, which can be terrible for several reasons even if you’re the nicest person on earth.
