Shitass operating system though. I hope market share crashes over the next few years, and a proper replacement for the average user takes its place.

We could all do with a little less dependence on Microslop

And I certainly don't mean MacOS.

What's that? A major OS update has broken compatibility with a number of things? AGAIN? Colour me shocked.

It would be nice if MacOS got better, but it also doesn't run on just any computer, so it also gets my personal stamp of 'shitass operating system'

It's really too bad the two major options both suck for different reasons.

@maddy until Adobe et al support Linux or whatever, that will never happen unfortunately.

@bearmine@gamepad.club I hope cromulent replacements for the Adobe suite start to pop up 'cause they really don't deserve such market dominance either.

@maddy@thegayagenda.fans Didn't they start making this a requirement under Win10, for some deployments? I see to recall our IT team having to ensure all newly provisioned laptops had an Internet connection when we imaged them

@maddy it’s not just Adobe though, they’re just the easiest example. There’s also Clip Studio Paint, Davinci Resolve (which has support only on one very specific distro/version combo), games (though valve is chipping away at that one), and so many other productivity apps that only support Windows and Mac.

The biggest barrier to Linux taking off is better proprietary software support.

@bearmine@gamepad.club Oh, for sure. We've got a ways to go before seeing the likes of MS and Adobe sweat, unfortunately.

@maddy I think what I also mean isn’t just porting the same software over. I also mean better support for packaging and distributing paid software across all distros. It’s one reason I keep hoping that flatpak keeps getting better and wins out as the defacto way to distribute Linux software.

There’s also the whole mess that is Linux UI tooling. And the clusterfuck that is the X11 to Wayland migration.

Distro maintainers have really made a mess of things.

@bearmine@gamepad.club So many hills that so many are willing to die on, and an utter lack of compromise that just make the overall experience shit for someone who's not savvy enough.

@maddy it makes it shit for developers too.

As the Ballmers of the world have said, DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS!

Edit: there’s a reason I’m learning Flutter and not GTK or QT.

What is the Linux setup for davinci resolve you mention. I'm trying to get off msoft and this is the holdup.
