    after all of this, if you get an interview video call, they will ask you to do funny things, like put your hand in front of your face or touch your nose or ears to break the AI face filter. it is so normal now that the interviewer doesn't even feel bad about it. they just say, put your hand in front of your face, okay? acting as if they are doing you a favour. the AI powered deepfakes keep ruining everything

      @nixCraft another reason I'm not going to leave my current job until I retire or die (probably the latter).

          @nixCraft At least fewer places are asking for collegiate transcripts these days.

            @nixCraft Also this. One asked me to "do something unexpected."

            I put on a Devo energy dome and held a plushie octopus in my lap.

            I did not get the job.

                  One minimum wage retail cashier job wanted a list of all my previous addresses going back 10 years and three "personal references" that weren't former coworkers.

                  Again, for $7.15/hr, 20 hours a week.

                    @awws @nixCraft I suppose it's more comfortable to look up stuff when you're not actually being seen?

                    @ehproque @nixCraft Sorry, I guess my question is, does it play a puppet of your face while the interview is going on or simply keep your eyes etc focused on the interviewers while talking? Just surprised it is sufficient to fool someone asking questions and interacting with it?

                      @nixCraft oh that's unrealistic.

                      They'll have you "interview" with an AI agent so you're forced to beg for the job on the spot in real time.

                      (Actual thing a job posting tried to get me to do recently)

                            @nixCraft Whstcis the purpose of the AI face filter for a candidate?

                            @awws @nixCraft Pretending to be someone you're not; appealing to racist stereotypes maybe?

                            Also maybe submitting 100 resumes, all with different faces, to the same company hoping you'll get the job

                              @nixCraft It's kind of amazing how if I go low-effort on the job search I usually come out ahead of where I started.

                                @kaito02 @nixCraft The multi resumes thing hadn’t occurred to me though, of course I imagine the stereotypes thing is totally legit for applicants.

                                I guess I am just kinda shocked at the idea of deep faking an interview in person (in most cases you would assume the jig is up on a con at that point) though I imagine with conditions the way things are, people get pushed to extremes.
