@Josteglitz @GayDeceiver Darby (the guy who invented the concept) was Irish I think. But his ideas only really took off when they were added as study notes to the Scofield Reference Bible, which sold like hotcakes in the United States. So you're correct, quite American.

The worst thing the powerful, old, white men ever did with religion was convince others they couldn't find divinity within themselves - because humans are 'too broken' - and that the divine can only be found externally.

I didn't even knew about it. (But I'm a french catholic.)
And "Sodom and Gomorrah" being a "proof that homosexuality is a sin" was inserted around the same time by a new Bible translation. In Germany if I remember correctly.
It is really recent.
Before that, the sin of Sodom and Gomorra was systematical rape of foreigners by big groups of men of the city. On men, women and children.
I personally think the mix up between "homosexuality" and "pedophilia" started at the same time, allowing the "mistranslation".
(and witch hunts started at the Rennaissance, witches were generally tolerated by the church in the middle age)
