    @MLE_online

    I'm not pro-ai, but

    These the companies complaining about the quality of the online applications,,, are they the same companies posting ghost job openings that are dead end time wasters for real folks looking for jobs?

    (I'm not blaming the messenger. Let's be catty together.)

      A lot of people tend to disagree with me when I say things like this on here, but I do think that if AI pollutes the internet so much that we are forced to spend more time interacting with each other face-to-face, it will be a good thing. Less online homework, less online hiring, less staring at youtube videos

      @MLE_online we need public spaces for people to meet, which is why I'm telling anyone who will listen that we need to have more breakdancing fundraisers to support community centers

          @MLE_online i only disagree for accessibility reasons. the world is not accessible for many people. so until our societies and meat-spaces are made accessible for everyone, online and remote access is crucial.

            @MLE_online That kinda ignores "more discrimination against folks on the basis of things you only see in-person" whether that's race, gender conformity, NNT quirks, etc.

                @chris_evelyn There's always a downside to anything. The plus side is maybe the epidemic of loneliness would ease somewhat if more people spent less time online

                  @MLE_online As a queer youth in a rural area in the 90s - my loneliness ended with the internet.

                  And besides: Where would people go then? There's a seroius lack of places where people can just be and meet without consuming.

                      @MLE_online Maybe it's that easy in the US. German libraries for example are very serious places, no events or anything.

                      But whatever. All I'm saying is that, other than AI shit, the internet/web itself has done a lot of good for many people and it would be shit to take it away.

                        @chris_evelyn In any case, this is beside the point. People will still be able to hang out online even if there's a bunch of AI slop in a lot of places. No one is taking away away the places where people spend time with their friends online. I'm just saying it would generally be good if more people spent less time online

                            @MLE_online It seems people are reading 'companies are going to do more offline because online is becoming less reliable' as 'companies are going to stop doing things online; that will no longer be an option', which seems like a really unlikely result.
