#Spotted at an Italian Festival in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A family of three--Mum, Dad and Small Human (3?)--are cosied up on a picnic blanket around a bowl of buttery sage gnocchi.
Each holding a fork and tucking in.
Buttery cheeky smiles.
Live opera drifting towards them on a warm breeze.A dance troupe in vivid red skirts and white blouses are dancing the tarantella* in the sunshine.
Tambourines in the air, smiles on their faces.
A band playing.
The crowd clapping and cheering.
Cicadas click-clicking in the trees overhead.
Pure joy.A young human (8?) is saying: "Hey uhm Dad, did you know that gelato isn't ice cream so you can have more."
Dad asks: "That right?"
"Yeah. So uhm. Can we get some now?"A tiny human (2?) with Italian flags painted on her cheeks, wearing a pretty pink fairy dress and white sandals, is a picture of abject woe as she stands next to a drinking fountain.
Hands outstretched beseechingly she wails: "Papa! The water fountain weed on my shooooooe!"An imperious woman (90s?) wearing a straw hat bedecked in flowers is overseeing two grandsons as they sort her seat.
Before long, she has an aperol spritz, a plate of antipasto and a comfortable cushion behind her back.
Yes, this meets her approval.
Their reward is a regal nod.(Continued Below)

Any typos spotted in this post spent a delightful few hours at their city's annual Italian festival yesterday. If typos spotted, they'll be watching a friend's dance troupe performing the tarantella before heading off to find the gnocchi truck for lunch.
--
*The tarantella is a group of Italian folk dances. If you've seen the intro wedding scene from The Godfather, you'll immediately recognise the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHV9xypv6w8
--
The picture taken by my lovely friend, Héléne, and is of another friend's dance troupe mid-performance of the tarantella. (As always, more in the alt text)

@georgepenney one family that included sub-teen grandkids went on holiday and stayed in a b&b not far from Florence, Siena, Pisa etc. I was full of suggestions for where to go. They went to none, but the grandkids remember the gelato as if it was yesterday.

The problem is that every time you mention sage, butter, and gnocchi, I want to make gnocchi with sage brown butter, and sometimes there are other things in the fridge that need eating.
