I've been in a few meetings this week where having quality notes is essential. Despite its UI quirks, the Plaud Note Pro does such an incredible job. Huge battery life, speaker identification, and templates for any occasion. Such a useful little gadget. Oh, and it now shows up in my Find My app as well.

@JonathanMosen First I'm hearing of this device, it sounds quite useful. So much that I may have to order one. Do you find that you need to use the display for it to be effective, or is there a non-visual way to get status information? also, happy to use a referral link if you have one.

@cartertemm There is no display. It just has a single button on the device and pairs with its app. In Access On episode 7, you can hear a review and demonstration of its smaller sibling, the Plaud Note Pin.

@jakobrosin I'd never go back to that, it would be one hell of a downgrade. With a phone or watch, you have to unlock it, find the app, and hit record. It might be possible to use the action button, but I'd rather not, you can only use the action button for one thing.
The Plaud has a single physical button on the back of the phone. One click and it’s instantly recording, and you get haptic vibration to confirm. You can record all day and still have battery to spare. Its battery records for about 20 hours. I would rather use its battery than drain the battery on my phone or watch.
Phone and watch mics are meant for close-range talking, not capturing a whole meeting room. The Plaud has a quad-mic array that filters out background noise from up to 16 feet away. I've used this at CSUN and other places where I am a long way from the speaker, and it's been flawless.
The manual workflow of record, export the file, upload to some transcribing service or Gemini, gets old real fast. I have also had far worse results from Otter than I have from Plaud. Also with Plaud, The second you stop recording, it automatically handles everything. It transcribes, tags who is speaking, and uses GPT-4o/Claude to generate a clean summary with action items. You just open the app and it's already done.
I also like that once Plaud has the recording, if you're not happy with the template it has chosen, you can choose another. Sometimes it will produce a narrative summary when I prefer notes like they are the minutes of a meeting. So I just change the template. It's all so quick and seamless, and then I just save the file as a Word doc. It's one of the best productivity tools I've bought in a long while. And, it has an app taht will record your online meetings for you, so you have a website where all your meeting notes are in a single place. Genius.

@JonathanMosen @jakobrosin I'm so mad I got the Plaud Pin. I waited too long to open it so now can't retuffn it.

@jakobrosin @JonathanMosen they promise quite a lot of languages and they do work with multilingual texts. My friend tested with English and Russian in particular.

@vitallie @jakobrosin You use their software for PC or Mac to capture online meetings. It does an exceptional job with lectures, and yes, for one on ones I disclose.

@JonathanMosen @jakobrosin really interesting, i don't think I would be allowed to use it at work, but I think there are plenty enough situations to justify such a device

@jakobrosin h dude overview is a good word for it. I haven’t even talked about how tasks automatically get put in Todoist for my follow-up, and how I get beautiful markdown summaries of meetings automatically placed in Dropbox right after the meeting. This thing is just so fantastic although the fluctuating accessibility is frustrating.

@jakobrosin @vitallie What does GDPR compliance look like for a company using LLMs for core features? A lot of crossed fingers that US tech companies will do the right thing™?

@JonathanMosen Great episode, consider me sold. The free plan with 300 minutes per month seems quite generous. I'm curious how they're subsidizing GPT-5.2, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and Claude Sonnet 4.6 usage while keeping the cost so reasonable.

@JonathanMosen @ysotomayor So I've never tried a device like this, so I am curious. How are the mics compared to the iPhone’s mics? I think one of the advantages of our apps and the drawback is that we are limited to the mic that is built in to the device the app is on, so I'm curious if a dedicated device’s mics like this would make all the difference.

@mikedoise @ysotomayor Yes, it makes the world of difference having a device optimized for recording people from long distances. Plus, I have it automatically sending markdown transcripts and summaries to Dropbox, and since it does speaker identification brilliantly, it puts tasks assigned to me in Todoist without me having to do anything.

@ysotomayor I didn’t have any, but there has been so much interest this weekend that I may well have to do something.

@EdenLinnea @JonathanMosen @jakobrosin I have used Zapier on a browser. It's not that intuitive, but it's accessible. I don't know of the app.
