    «Clicking "reject cookies" might not actually do anything:
    Google, Microsoft, and Meta largely ignore cookie opt-outs, independent audit says»

    …and then they complain that users reduce their spying by tracking banners such as @ublockorigin, @noscript, @privacybadger or/and @libredirect?!

    Opt-out? Legally it's not even allowed to be an opt-out.

    Legally it should also require not more effort or clicks to reject than to accept. We all know, no-one follows that law.

          Due to the formatting it doesn’t present itself as a clickable link in my client, and it didn’t work when I copy pasted it either. Part of the url seems to be missing, so I thought let’s help out and share a clickable link.

            @kubikpixel On top of all those extensions, clear your cookies regularly! My browser does that every time I close it. Or use the sites you want to keep cookies for in a regular window, and use a private window for everything else.

              @kubikpixel
              Also happening: unused accounts aren't deleted even if they announced it would happen soon if I don't take any action (in my case adobe) - I think that's a law too?
              and if you start the registration but never confirm your e-mail adress, the account is created anyway (in my case patreon).

                The EFF have an extension which learns to block those site which ignore requests to not track. I've just installed it so see if that might identify the ignorant sites.

                    @kubikpixel @ublockorigin @noscript @privacybadger @libredirect The WebXray report and my own investigation into #Google opt-out cookies have so many parallels. Except mine was in 2011.

                    https://jackyan.com/blog/2011/03/three-out-of-three-googles-ads-preferences-manager-does-not-work/

                    I can’t speak for Meta and Microsoft, but Google has been doing this for a long time. Did they stop between 2011 and 2026? No idea—after the 2011 experience I blocked all their cookies.
