So, I imagine my Tina Christian profile on Bandcamp will be removed soon because some arsehole decided to report it.
-
@darrenhartland @maerlynofmiria I mean, I could post my music on Bandcamp, but I thought that Bandcamp themselves as a company were all against AI-supported music as a whole and would blanketly disallow it which is why I didn't bother. Plus, I don't know that I want to deal with those Anti-AI fucktards.
@LeonianUniverse @maerlynofmiria STrictly speaking yes, but you have to be reported, which personally I think is a shitty method of doing it lol

@darrenhartland @maerlynofmiria Yeah, but see, I don't want to break the rules if they are against AI-supported music as a whole. If they won't accept it, I am sure there are platforms that will and have a market for it. Its why I use Distro Kid, because they don't give a fuck, they just let me put the music that I want up essentially. Only thing is, I don't know how to put the AI Music tags on my Music so I have to describe every time that its made with the help of AI.

@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland From what I gather, they didn't start out as anti AI till a bunch of mouths with legs with nothing better to do than bitch about progress started putting pressure on them.

@maerlynofmiria @LeonianUniverse it's likely a little more nuanced than that STeve, not everything is black and white, good or bad. If Band Camp is for independent musicians, then I guess they have every right to say we don't like this because if you're just a prompt jockey, you're not a musician.
Unfortunately that then excludes those who put a lot more work into their creations like myself, but the rules are the rules.
So I'm not gonna bitch about the artists that are rightly concerned, I'm more likely to bitch about those who use AI to create generic shit and spam the streaming services with little thought to what they're producing which then has a knock on affect to people like me.

@darrenhartland @LeonianUniverse It's a bit more black and white than you think. Isn't it interesting how people were perfectly able to post AI generated content to band Camp for a good long time, and then when the AI haters came out and started bitching left right and center, even in forums that had nothing what so ever to do with music (Tweesecake support telegram Group anyone?) suddenly, then and only then did bandcamp go all anti AI on us? Bottom line, if these AI haters would basically be told to go stuff it, we'd not be seeing this going on. It's just like what happened with Dice world's devs giving in to the whiners and toasting the ability to tweet one's wins instead of telling said whiners "If you don't like the posts, skip them. after all, there are no gangsters at your door threatening your life if you don't view said posts."

@maerlynofmiria @LeonianUniverse OK, mate you go and fight the war if you like, I'll keep making Tina's music and feel much happier about it.

@darrenhartland @maerlynofmiria Yeah, I don't have a persona, I just like making music, it takes quite a long time to make it though, and its certainly not the easiest process out there. I just hate that people who make one-prompt songs are stifling those of us who actually take the time to make our music and make it sound good even though it is generated with AI. It really sucks, hours, days, even weeks put in to this and yet we're being seen as the problem when we are not.

@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland This is why the album I'm working on's taking months to put together. and I'm enjoying doing it, as it's not just generating for me but picking and choosing once I have songs done.
-
So, I imagine my Tina Christian profile on Bandcamp will be removed soon because some arsehole decided to report it. OK, whatever I'm not fussed about that so much, but the fact that they found it necessary to comment on one of my tina posts and tell me with a sarcastic "bye bye" tells me all I need to know about what kind of prick they are.
If we're not hurting you, just leave people the fuck alone to get on with their lives you sad little moron.
OK, I'm good now.
@darrenhartland If I'm correct, you declare right there in the profile and tracks etc that it's AI music. If mods are gonna have a problem with it, they['ll deal with that. There was no need for that on the part of the other user and I'm sorry it happened.

@maerlynofmiria @darrenhartland I wonder what your process is, I use either Claud or ChatGPT to help me make my lyrics actually cohesive, and then Suno to refine my style. The advanced mode for Suno is really good for this as I can refine my style as I go along, see if the lyrics are clunky or if they'll work in a song, and if not, adjust them so that they are more in-line with the style I'm looking for then sort of just tailor it to that style as I go along, takes a lot of generations though and sometimes I go back some time later and see if it still hits the same as it did before, and if not, refine even more til I know I have a banger.

@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland Shift that viewpoint along a bit and you have the reason for the "anti-AI fucktards" as you put it though. They hate feeling that the practice and years of work they put in is being stifled by people who can make an album in a month or whatever. The 1-prompt jockeys make you uncomfortable, gen-ai musicians make traditional musicians uncomfortable.

@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland Absolutely not trying to start shit, just foster mutual understanding. There's good reason for the strong feeling on all sides. A balance will come in time I hope.

@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland I use suno GPT to help wiht the lyrics, and that gpt also gives me taylored prompts for V5, and then I go into the lyric sheet and play about and work on fixing anything that needs fixing, then go through the sheet again and give it another go round, then finally give it to suno. Here's one of my newer ones.

@JustinMac84 @darrenhartland Look, I get it, I'm not discounting the fact that they put in years of work to make their craft as good as it is, that for sure can not be understated, but those same people come after us like we're the problem. We're using technology to do things we otherwise couldn't do like they could, how is that a bad thing? There are new innovations all of the time, we're just using the tools we've been given to make music we enjoy making. For me, its an outlet that I didn't have before, so many musical ideas that I tried to make in the past, but could not because I didn't have the tools, the money, or anything that could help me do it like I can now. So yes, I understand where they are coming from, doesn't mean that they still aren't Anti-AI fucktards.

@maerlynofmiria @darrenhartland What is SunoGPT? I didn't even know that was a thing.

@maerlynofmiria @darrenhartland What is SunoGPT? I didn't even know that was a thing.
@LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland It's a GPT a guy made that's customized for suno. It's one of the many you can use with chat GPT. Here's the URL.

@LeonianUniverse Do you not see though that they feel stifled by you in the same way that you feel stifled by the AI-sloppers? If you invested your life in a craft and then someone could come along and make it much faster than you with possibly higher seeming production values, would you not feel threatened by the people undermining your livelihood? Perhaps not, but that's why some people attack the users as the problem because that perception makes them lash out.

@LeonianUniverse I won't weary everyone with my AI position. I've spent a lot of time doing it and lost enough followers for it and I won't change the world doing it again. If you really want to know where I stand on it, I will tell you, but otherwise I won't bore you. I guess why I chimed in is to encourage understanding from all sides. Insecurity and threat makes people lash out, there are valid points in both camps.
-
@beatlesfan1978 @LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland I guess that's the point I was trying to make. It's hard for some to see their being a positive way if that way makes them feel their effort, creative process, livelihood and voice are under threat from people expending less. I'm not asserting a position by that statement, just saying that both positions are understandable.

@beatlesfan1978 @LeonianUniverse @darrenhartland But, to be clear, as I said in a different branch of this thread, what I am asserting is that I agree with Darron that what the commenter did was unnecessary and unhelpful.
